Central Avalon Ground Search and Rescue team covers the area from Holyrood to Colliers, west to Roaches Line, the Salmonier Line, the entire Southern Shore and the East Coast Trail south of the boundary of the City of St. John's. The team works with transport Canada to provide safe boating presentations and is also actively involved in presenting the Hug-a-tree and Survive Outside programs which teach young people how to stay safe in the woods and what to do should they become lost.

We are a leader in preventing pet overpopulation as the first shelter in Newfoundland and Labrador to spay and neuter all our animals prior to adoption. The Whale Release and Stranding Group assists Newfoundland and Labrador fishermen in releasing trapped and rescuing stranded whales and sea turtles. The group also provides technical expertise for fishermen to release trapped whales and sea turtles on their own. Entrapped whales often tow fishing gear many miles away.
