Cara Transition House is a safe haven for women and children who are fleeing violence. Planning work and lobbying began years earlier with significant involvement of the Gander Status of Women. It is the basic human right for every woman to live in a non violent environment and no woman should be forced to remain in a violent or abusive home because of lack of alternatives. Cara House offers a 24 hour crisis line, emergency shelter, second stage housing and works to educate the public about gender-based violence. Crisis Line: 1-877-800-2272

Gander Fire Rescue is a composite (career and volunteer) Department under the direction of a volunteer Fire Chief, providing fire and rescue services to the town of Gander, CFB Gander and surrounding area. Gander Fire Rescue conducts fire prevention, code enforcement, public safety and other inspections, under the direction of the Fire Inspector. Home fire safety inspections, solid fuel burning appliance inspections, or other personal needs inspections can be arranged by calling the Office of the Fire Inspector at 256-8866.
