It came into being after God's people in the former Parishes of New Harbour and Whitbourne entered into a conversation regarding "How to do an effective ministry in the area." The parish is comprised of eight congregations: All Saint's Dildo, Christ Church Markland, Holy Spirit Old Shop, St. Augustine's New Harbour, St. Barnabas Blaketown, St. John the Baptist Whitbourne, St. Luke Placentia and St. Martin Dunville. The former parishes have a rich history dating back to the early 1800's and now as a new parish it will continue to add to that history.
St. Augustine's is a Christ centered community of worshippers who are open minded, alert to the changing needs of our world, with a desire to be caring, sharing and family oriented.

The origins of this Parish go back to the early 17th century with the arrival of the first priest of the Church of England in c. 1613, as part of the colonization of John guy's colony of Cuper's Cove . After a number of years, the missionaries moved from Cupids i.e., Burnt Head, to other parts of the Avalon.The Parish existed for years as a 4-point Parish involving Brigus, South River, Cupids and Makinsons and has undergone several name changes in its history. In the winter of 2006, the new parish of the Resurrection moved into its New House for the Church, located at the crossroads of Makinsons, South River and Cupids/Brigus.
As Anglicans we are called to obey our Lord's commission: "Go, then to all people everywhere and make them my disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you."
