Schutzhund is a German word meaning protection dog. It refers to a sport that focuses on developing and evaluating those traits in dogs that make them more useful and happier companions to their owners. The club trains on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings in Torbay and Flatrock.
Direct and oversee periodic major fund raising drives to assist the NSO's efforts to develop a stable and self-sustaining funding base. Its primary objectives are: to serve as the permanent custodian of endowment funds directed to the NSO; to solicit, receive and invest gifts; and to accumulate, apply and distribute principal and interest from invested funds for the benefit of the NSO and authorized NSO special projects.
The Newfoundland T'Railway Council is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the development of a recreational trail from St. Johns to Port aux Basques using the former Canadian National railway line. Its mandate is to promote multi-use trail development and to preserve abandoned railway lines for future use such as hiking, biking, equestrian, snowmobile, ATV and cross-country ski trails.
The Newfoundland Writers Guild was established to help writers develop their writing skills in a workshop setting. It is open to writers at all levels. The Guild holds monthly workshops and two annual writing retreats.

The Nickel Independent Film Festival began in 2001 in St. John's, Newfoundland. Inspired by a need for local filmmakers to show their films, the Nickel occurs each year in the third week of June at the historic LSPU Hall.

NONIA is a manufacturing and a retail operation and we employ approximately 175 knitters and weavers across the province. They continue to produce NONIA's well known hand-knit sweaters, socks, hats and mitts for infants to adults as well as woven placemats, runners, napkins and scarves.
