The Birch Brook Nordic Ski Club is a non-profit,recreational and environmental education facility with a mandate to encourage affordable outdoor recreation, physical and mental fitness and appreciate the natural environment.The club is a popular site for cross-country skiing enthusiasts, attracting about 200 members comprising a large youth contingent. The club is taking an active approach to building its reputation as an ideal skiing locale through its attempts to bring provincial and regional competitions to the area.

It is responsible for the over-all operation of the Smallwood Interpretation and Visitor Information Centre, Joey's Lookout, the Village Green, Walsh House, Loggers Memorial Park, David Smallwood Park, the Smallwood Trail System, and the Mi'kmaq Cemetery. Through its Heritage Committee, SEDCOR aims to preserve the area's natural and cultural environment.

The White Wolf Snowmobile Club (WWSC) was formed in 1997 to provide unparalleled snowmobiling for its members in Labrador West. From 150 registered machines in 1997 to over 1000 today, the WWSC has become the largest organized club of its kind in Atlantic Canada.
