The United Church Women is a non-profit organization which meets the first Tuesday night every month. The UCW is very active holding fundraisers and get-togethers in support of Alton United Church such as Afternoon Tea and Bake Sales, Thanksgiving Suppers and Sales, Anniversary Suppers and more.
This union came about as a result of the union of the Blackhead and Broad Cove congregations. Cooperation is well established and the ladies look forward to carrying on their traditional role in the service of the Lord while serving their congregation and the greater Church.

A new manse was built in Portugal Cove in 1978 and the Bell Island congregation of 70 families is served from Portugal Cove. Bell Island was originally served from the Topsail United Church from 1895 to 1900. All records are maintained at the Memorial United Church in Portugal Cove.

Holding weekly worship services and providing ministries for adults and children on a weekly basis. The church makes donations to several community groups including the food banks and clothing stores. The church hall is also available to the local Girl Guides,Sparks, and Boy Scouts weekly.
